In the late 1990s an old cray boat hull was restored and remodeled as a Couta boat. ‘Kauri Chief’ has been used as sail training yacht ever since and has introduced hundreds of students from junior secondary to university, to the world of sailing “the way it used to be done”.

She is fully approved and licensed with Marine Safety Victoria and is staffed by qualified and experienced crew members.

‘Kauri Chief’ is surveyed for 12 + 2 which makes it an excellent team activity. Options include half and full day sail training programs and may combine with other sessions including row boating, dinghy sailing, and sea safety programs.
